My Story

South London Special League (SLSL) provides much-needed opportunities for young disabled people and adults to improve their lives through sport.

Disabled people in the Royal Borough of Greenwich are among some of the most deprived in London. These can be isolated lives, unable to connect with their local community or benefit from the physical and mental boost that comes from being involved with team sports.

I'm raising money towards coaching, equipment (new powerchairs cost upwards of £6,500), on-going maintenance costs and travel to and from games for Greenwich Powerchair Football Club (GPFC).

Powerchair football is a fast moving, highly skilled game. Training takes place every Thursday evening at Woolwich Waterfront Centre. These are valuable moments of freedom in highly restricted lives, two hours to experience the joy of a game of football with friends.

Charlton Athletic Community Trust are one of GPFC’s supporters, providing an assistant coach for the Thursday night training sessions and a new Charlton playing kit.

“Every penny you donate goes towards keeping the great work of this charity going,” says Mayor of Greenwich Leo Fletcher.

“I’m over the moon that the great work being done by the charity to improve the lives of disabled people is being recognised by our council and community,” says Sharon Brokenshire MBE, Founder and Director of SLSL.

Thank you very much for whatever you are able to donate. Your money will go towards keeping the important work of SLSL going, ensuring our diverse, disabled community can continue to meet friends, play sport and have fun.
